ಆರ್ಕೀಯ
ಆರ್ಕೀಯ ಎಂಬುದು ಏಕಕೋಶೀಯ ಜೀವಿಗಳ ಒಂದು ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರ. ಈ ವರ್ಗದ ಸೂಕ್ಷ್ಮಜೀವಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಕೋಶಕೇಂದ್ರವಾಗಲಿ (ನ್ಯೂಕ್ಲಿಯಸ್), ಮೈಟೊಕಾಂಡ್ರಿಯಾವಾಗಲೀ ಇರುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ವರ್ಣತಂತು (ಕ್ರೋಮೊಸೋಮ್)[೪][೫] ಮತ್ತು ರೈಬೋಸೋಮ್ ಮಾತ್ರ ಇರುವುವು. ಈ ಗುಂಪಿನ ಕೆಲವು ಜೀವಿಗಳು ಮೀಥೇನನ್ನು ಉತ್ಪತ್ತಿ ಮಾಡುತ್ತವೆ. ಇವುಗಳಿಗೆ ಮಿಥೆನೋಜೆನ್ಸ್ ಎಂದು ಹೆಸರು. ಇದೇ ರೀತಿ ಉಪ್ಪಿನ ಅಂಶ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಇರುವೆಡೆ ಬೆಳೆಯುವ ಆರ್ಕೀಯಗಳಿಗೆ ಹ್ಯಾಲೊಫೈಲ್‌ಗಳೆಂದು ಹೆಸರು.
