This template takes an optional id parameter, heading and page number or numbers for the MSW3 entry on the species or other taxon in question.

For example:

{{MSW3 Grubb | id = 14100038 | page = 633}}

gives

Grubb, P. (16 November 2005). Wilson, D. E.; Reeder, D. M (eds.). Mammal Species of the World (3rd ed.). Johns Hopkins University Press. p. 633. ISBN 978-0-8018-8221-0. OCLC 62265494. {{cite book}}: Invalid |ref=harv (help)CS1 maint: date and year (link)

for Baird's tapir, Tapirus bairdii (the title link goes to the MSW3 web page for the species entry).

In the following example, a heading is used:

{{MSW3 Grubb | id = 14200110 | pages = 645–647 | heading = Family Camelidae}}

giving

Grubb, P. (16 November 2005). "Family Camelidae". In Wilson, D. E.; Reeder, D. M (eds.). Mammal Species of the World (3rd ed.). Johns Hopkins University Press. pp. 645–647. ISBN 978-0-8018-8221-0. OCLC 62265494. {{cite book}}: Invalid |ref=harv (help)CS1 maint: date and year (link)

for Camelidae (the heading link now goes to the MSW3 web page for the family entry, while the title link goes to the Google Books preview for MSW3).

Grubb contributed the following sections to MSW3: Order Perissodactyla and Order Artiodactyla. When no heading is employed, it may be advantageous to use instead one of the more specific taxon-based templates ({{MSW3 Perissodactyla}} or {{MSW3 Artiodactyla}}), which supply a default chapter heading.
