Template documentationThis subtemplate is part of Template:Gloss presently Template:Gloss/sandbox. It decides, based on user input, whether to begin bracketing something with ' (by default), to open with some other character (", (, or [, as specified), or use no bracketing character if told not to use one, and also does some default things based on pre-defined |mode= values in the parent template. Feel free to adapt this for other purposes, but please do not modify this copy (e.g. to change what the default character is, or add other bracketing options; this one is already doing precisely what it needs to for the intended use. See Template:Gloss/brac-end for the closing half of this code.
