[೬] [೪] [೫] 2018 ರಲ್ಲಿ 376,000 ಚೆರೋಕಿಯಲ್ಲಿ 1,520 ಚೆರೋಕೀ ಭಾಷಿಕರು ಇದ್ದರು ಎಂದು ಎಥ್ನೊಲೊಗ್ ಹೇಳುತ್ತದೆ, ಆದರೆ 2019 ರಲ್ಲಿ ಮೂರು ಚೆರೋಕೀ ಬುಡಕಟ್ಟು ಜನಾಂಗದವರು ~ 2,100 ಭಾಷಿಕರನ್ನು ದಾಖಲಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. [೯] ಮಾತನಾಡುವವರ ಸಂಖ್ಯೆ ಕ್ಷೀಣಿಸುತ್ತಿದೆ. ಪ್ರತಿ ತಿಂಗಳು ಸುಮಾರು ಎಂಟು ಜನ ನಿರರ್ಗಳವಾಗಿ ಮಾತನಾಡುವವರು ಸಾಯುತ್ತಾರೆ, ಮತ್ತು 40 ವರ್ಷಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಕಡಿಮೆ ವಯಸ್ಸಿನ ಜನರು ಮಾತ್ರ ನಿರರ್ಗಳವಾಗಿರುತ್ತಾರೆ. [೧೦] ಒಕ್ಲಹೋಮಾದ ಚೆರೋಕಿಯ ಉಪಭಾಷೆಯು "ಖಂಡಿತವಾಗಿಯೂ ಅಳಿವಿನಂಚಿನಲ್ಲಿದೆ", ಮತ್ತು ಉತ್ತರ ಕೆರೊಲಿನಾದ ಒಂದು ಯುನೆಸ್ಕೋ ಪ್ರಕಾರ "ತೀವ್ರವಾಗಿ ಅಳಿವಿನಂಚಿನಲ್ಲಿದೆ". [೧೧] ಹಿಂದೆ ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಕೆರೊಲಿನಾ-ಜಾರ್ಜಿಯಾ ಗಡಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾತನಾಡುವ ಕೆಳಭಾಷೆ ಸುಮಾರು 1900 ರಿಂದ ಅಳಿದುಹೋಗಿದೆ. [೧೨] ಉಳಿದಿರುವ ಎರಡು ಉಪಭಾಷೆಗಳ ಭವಿಷ್ಯದ ಕುರಿತಾದ ಭೀಕರ ಪರಿಸ್ಥಿತಿಯು ಪುನರುಜ್ಜೀವನಗೊಳಿಸುವ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನಗಳನ್ನು ಹೆಚ್ಚಿಸುವ ಕರೆ ನೀಡಿ 2019 ರ ಜೂನ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿ ಚೆರೋಕೀ ಬುಡಕಟ್ಟು ಜನಾಂಗದ ತ್ರಿ-ಕೌನ್ಸಿಲ್ ತುರ್ತು ಪರಿಸ್ಥಿತಿಯನ್ನು ಘೋಷಿಸಲು ಪ್ರೇರೇಪಿಸಿತು.
